In a weirdly related follow up, yesterday we got some bogus "extend your warranty" kind of mail, for a kind of car we've never had, and while it listed our exact address, it was addressed to Hugh Janus. I am not making this up. To be honest, it made me laugh. No idea why this happened.

I agree, just get it. It's one night of suffering (and if you limit what you eat 3 days in advance, that one night isn't actually terrible), and then 10 years of piece of mind.

We’ve been there. Just a warning, sometimes you get invited to the funeral or cremation events like the timeshare sales. They invite you to a presentation for a free meal with it. We have not gone. AARP mailings are coming soon too.

I don't mean to be a pain OP. I'm the poster whose mom was diagnosed at 65. She's an 18 year survivor and it was caught at stage 2. She had surgery but didn't need chemo or radiation. She had been completely asymptomatic.

She did smoke for 20 years (age 20-40 or so) and had quit for at least 25 years. She did eat a lot of red meat. No genetic component. Don't know if those two lifestyle choices contributed but I'm putting it out there.

If you have insurance, I'd get it done. It can't hurt and can only help.

OP here. I hear you guys about the increasing rates of Colon cancer.

Wouldn't it be more alarming if you got the funeral home ad AFTER you sent in your poo? Like, what do they know??

Yup. My mother was diagnosed at 65, which is older, but it was her first colonoscopy. I got my first at 40 because of her diagnosis, and had polyps. If you can get a colonoscopy, please do.
