We have always brought our own chairs and umbrellas to the beach. We have always grocery shopped and cooked or prepped 2 out of the 3 meals a day at least. Yes I know some people refuse to cook on vacation, but eating out for every meal is cost prohibitive and not as healthy. Do I love doing dishes on vacation? No, but I also don’t love spending 1k on restaurant food. It adds up!
We do go out to eat sometimes and we do get ice cream out a couple of times, but we can also get a box of popsicles for the same price as one cone out so we can have a treat on the porch and my kids are just as happy. Memories still being made. So my advice is to put a little work into it and you won’t feel so price gouged!
+1 Fire up the grill for a few dinners or head out to Route 1 to pick up less expensive take out, pack a cooler for lunch on the beach, and hand your kids treats from your freezer when you head out to the boardwalk for evening fun.
We sometimes start the slow cooker and rice cooker before heading to the beach so we have a great meal that night. We're just over a block to the beach, so one of us will pop back to the house after lunch to grab popsicles to have on the beach.
