I was going to suggest PR too. You don’t need a passport but it "feels" more foreign than other places.

Very good idea and much better than Mexico

She would like to travel but doesn't want to do it alone (dad has passed) and is nervous in new places, but is ok of others are there to help guide her. We are thinking under $7000 a person and sharing accomodations for 5 of us.

Mom likes warm weather, laying at a pool, dinner/drinks, site seeing at a casual pace, massages, saunas, bus tours.
Does not like the cold, a lot of walking, horrible food, too many bugs.

Aw, man. I was going to try and convince you to do an Alaskan cruise out of Vancouver, but I would definitely be playing to the wrong audience.

If your mom has only traveled one state away, I would not take her to Mexico. Too many things can go wrong. Go to FL...you don't want to stress your mom out with getting a passport, going through customs, etc.

Hate to say it but a cruise is perfect for this! Be as active or lazy as you want!

See if sh likes this simple trip. There can be more! 71 is not old old. I was hiking Rockies at 71.

Oh, I really want your mom to get a passport and be able to say she traveled abroad with you. My mom passed away and we never really traveled together. I have friends who’ve gone with their moms (in their late 60s and early 70s) to Tulemar resort in Costa Rica and Grotto Bay Beach Resort in the Bahamas. I don’t think either trip broke the bank. Tulemar sounded nicest—with nature tours and a really convenient beach shuttle. Another friend just took her parents to Aruba and said her mom loved it. (I don’t know exactly where). Now is not the time to think that something like getting a passport is too much trouble. Life is short.

Getting a passport for this is overkill.
Sarasota, St Petersburg.

I agree that staying in the US would make the most sense for someone nervous. My sister and I went with my Mom to Naples, Florida. It was low key but she really enjoyed it.

Marco Island Marriott in Florida. Keep it simple, stay in the US if she’s nervous.

What about an all-inclusive resort or cruise? Does your mom WANT to travel? If she's never traveled more than 1 state away, does she have a valid passport?

You left out so many details. What time of year? What is "not too expensive" for you? For some on DCUM, a $10k vacation is practically couch change.

My mom and I have taken trips to New Orleans, St Petersburg Florida, and San Diego. We also went on a Caribbean cruise once, from Ft Lauderdale. All were fun. We had warm weather, plenty to see and do, good food, and no long treks were required. Depends on what you’d like to do and how much time you have.

My sisters and I are thinking of a girls trip with my mom but she has never really traveled more than 1 state away. We are thinking someplace warm like Mexico. Looking for something SAFE, not too expensive and with a good mix of fun and relaxation for a 71 year old woman with no huge mobility issues, but long treks are not going to go over well (no hiking)
