I have watched this miniseries at least 3 times start to finish - that time period is so interesting to me and the acting in this is great.

Just watched it again with my kids, since they are perennially studying Revolutionary history.

John Adams is a frustrating miniseries because they almost ruin it with the overuse of Dutch angles and extreme close ups.

Not a movie but a one season series on PBS: Atlantic Crossing. It's based on the friendship between Franklin Roosevelt and the Crown Princess of Norway during WWII.

Un Village Français on Amazon I think. Marvelous series about a fictional French village under Nazi occupation. Really the only thing I’ve seen depicting regular people
And the impossible choices they had to make during that time.

Conspiracy
It’s a recreation of the Wannsee Conference starring, among others, Stanley Tucci (Eichmann), Kenneth Branaugh (Heydrich), Colin Firth (Stuckart). It’s absolutely chilling.

Masters of the Air is the 3rd in that trilogy-- about the air war in Europe--and is very good. (The Pacific was the second series, and it was fine but not nearly as compelling.)

Chernobyl mini series on HBO.

Sorry, those are all mini series.

Apollo 13 (movie)
13 Days (move about the Cuban missile crisis)
The Post (about the Pentagon Papers-- stars Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep)

OP here. Miniseries are fine! I haven't watched Masters of the Air but loved Band of Brothers and liked The Pacific. I've really liked the others but haven't seen 13 days so thanks!

Something the Lord Made has stuck with me for over 20 years. I do love documentaries but I also love a good historical movie (historical fiction I guess?). Any suggestions? I'm coming off finishing a TV series and it's always hard to get started on a new one so I think I'll dive into documentaries/movies for a bit before committing to another series.
