Can your flooring people put down a bunch of different stains and you can see what you like? When we redid our floors they put together a grid of five different stains, plus the raw wood with poly. We ended up having them mix two stains together to get exactly what we wanted (birch and something else I don't remember).

This is definitely the highest end way and very nice. Not as durable if you wear outside shoes indoors or have pets, but easy to touch up damage.

If that's not an option, then sand, stain, and polyurethane. Semi gloss is best compromise.

We have red oak floors in our house that are 95 years old. Which stains and treatment really allow the natural beauty of these floors to shine?

There are lots of trends - matte floors, whitewashed and scandi floors, pickled floors, etc. But leaving all of that behind, which treatment celebrates the wood itself?
