Lawrenceville is far more prestigious than any DMV private. Lawrenceville is a top 10 private school in the US, top 5 among boarding schools.

You should still provide a bit more information (interests, preferences on school type or location, etc), but you’re likely to get more sympathetic and useful answers there. This forum is not particularly knowledgeable about or friendly towards boarding schools.

Lawrenceville is being much more opaque this year than usual. A kid unfortunately had a mental breakdown over disappointing college outcomes this past year and tried harming themselves. Thankfully, they're doing fine now, but the school was shellshocked over the incident and has made a series of adjustments to try and cool down competitiveness.

A. Lawrenceville is not random if you know anything about boarding schools.

Does his school have an account or provider that will allow access to the Scattergrams for Lawrenceville? This would tell you, based on those stats, how prior applicants to particular schools have fared. For example, a kid with the same stats applied to Princeton and was waitlisted, a kid with a 3.76 GPA and a 1500 SAT was admitted, and a kid with a 3.7 / 1580 was denied. Kind of helps you see how the matriculation for each college works, when the data is available.

There might be a case where there is not enough data (translation: so few applied they won't display the data for fear of being able to identify the student).

Don’t fancy boarding schools have good college counseling? They are going to be a lot more familiar than most folks on this forum, which tends to range anywhere from unfamiliar with boarding schools to actively hostile towards them.

somewhat ambiguous... what does your child have a desire to do? Also, consider in-state vs OOS, vs private, etc. No clue what your financial situation is and that can play heavy in decisions. That's a solid SAT score but doesn't tell the entire story.... good luck
