It doesn't all go to the groomer. Supplies cost money, maintenance on clippers costs money, overhead for wherever your groomer grooms costs money, holding space (ideally with supervision) for pets costs money, training costs money, taxes take some of that money...
If you think you can pick up a pair of clippers and do it for $300, go for it. You don't groom your pet. There's a reason. Someone with experience does that for you, and they do a good job. If you're going somewhere like a petsmart/petco, they are NOT getting paid $300/hr.
If you can afford a pet, you can afford a tip. Don't be cheap.
