Do you know why the grades are low?

Are there trends? Do they freeze when they take a test? Some kids don't see the difference between classwork and a test.

Did they just miss a lot of assignments (look for 0s or 50s).

Consider this a transition year. It is hard to change your approach to learning. As are like trophies and they may have been reinforced for effort (which is better in the long run) instead of outcome.

Be patient. Read a lot with your kid. Schedule a time about twice a month to check grades & discuss them next year.

Don't have her burn out too early OP. I saw this happen with some very smart girls at Holton. Honestly, some of the girls seemed a lot smarter than my kid. But, we didn't put the pressure on. Mine ended up at HYP, and some of the very smart burned out girls ended up at how hum SLACs.

Ease up and don't worry about grades until HS.

6-8th grades matter. If there is an upward trajectory, all good.

She will take the SSAT or HSPT standardized test for high school. I’d recommend a strong reading habit as that will pay off later. Let her pick the books, buy ensure she is reading regularly.

If your child is planning to apply to a private middle school, they will ask for a transcript and review grades for 6th and possibly 5th grades. However, I don’t think a few Bs will make a difference. All Bs may limit acceptances to the highly competitive schools.

Our lower school doesn't have grades.

LOL Please do your kids a favor and stop stressing about grades in elementary school. It's about learning and growing - NOT about grades which are subjective anyway!

HS will only look at 6-8th. Consider 5th a practice year.

Yes - a B in fourth grade has doomed her for life!!

What school is this? My 4th grader in private doesn’t get grades nor a lot of homework.

4 th grade in a private and you think it’s harder than a public lol I feel sorry for your kid with such dumb parents

They won’t count. But seriously what difference does it make now. This really isn't anything for you or your DD tonbe stressing about.

Fourth grade grades won’t matter if applying to 9th. If you are looking to apply somewhere for 6th, they will be seen.
