Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival in August. I just booked a hotel for mid-August and there are still rooms available.

Buenos Aires is a great suggestion! Fun food, architecture, and shopping plus the drama of places like the big cemetery. I think a teenager who isn’t into outdoorsy stuff or museums would find a lot to enjoy in BA.

This is a bad idea. Seattle person here. That time of year our sun is very intense and our days are long, and there is little humidity so 75 degrees feels less mild than it sounds. Once we get past July 4th, the sun can be pretty relentless most summers until spotty clouds and showers start in mid-to late-August. Some summers we have morning cloud cover that burns off, but it is certainly not a given.

If you are not familiar with high-latitude sun in the summer, it’s more intense than what you’re used to in the dmv. I have skin issues and while I love our relatively mild summers, I find the sun really challenging, as do many of my friends here.

You should look into the more rainforest-y parts of Vancouver Island and the Olympic Peninsula- you could plan around the shade. Alaska’s weather turns cold, wet and unpleasant by the 2nd-3rd week of August depending on the year, so that might be a good option, too.

NYC is hot and smelly in the summer. How about Montreal, Canada? It has outdoor activities, shopping and we be fun for a 14 year old girl.

My daughter has a rare skin condition and has to cover her skin so we’re trying to think of somewhere with cooler temperatures to go this summer. She’s 14 and loves fashion, theater, music, and pop culture. Outdoorsy stuff and museums are not her thing. Domestic or international travel is possible.
Thanks. I’m not well traveled and appreciate any suggestions.
