DS asked if he could get $100 if he got all A's. I said yes. He has several learning disabilities so all A's is a huge challenge. He ended up with A's and 2 B+. We gave him $75.

Third kid. First two kids never asked for this so they didn't get it. Also NT.

I told them if they got straight a’s I’d get them a bunny, which they desperately wanted.
Wish granted.

My #1 worked very hard and never got straight As. My #2 also worked hard but school came easier to her. She graduated with 1 B over all 4 years. I would never want #1 to feel less.

DC#1 is an academic super star. They've been getting straight As from MS now in college. They more than us would be disappointed if they didn't get straight As. But, when they were in 1st grade, they had spelling tests, and when they got 100, they could pick anyplace to have breakfast on Saturday. They always chose this cafe and had chocolate chip pancakes. It was a treat for DC#2, too.

Froyo for DC #2, who is not an academic superstar.

I got $5 an A and a $10 bonus for all A's. It's how I bought music and cosmetics.

About a third of high school kids get straight As now.

The distinction comes down to 97+ vs. 91. GPAs account for this.

What matters to them? Time at a climbing wall? Sports equipment? Give them a "certificate of accomplishment" for an experience or thing or an amount at a store. Or a donation to a charity that is meaningful to them.

I remember my dad handing me a $100 bill when I did and it left an impression!

Anyone else do anything for their kids? I think straight As is a big deal; would like to celebrate it somehow. But the kid is not super materialistic.
