Where was it said that it was anything but that? Short season summer league. Mostly college players. Some teams have been driving some nice attendance numbers. Good for the community.

I was at the Annapolis game last night. They do a good job with pretty much everything...stadium, food, drinks, gear...lots of youngsters. Good game and 2100 in attendance on a Wednesday night.

This is the first year for their women's squad. The men's team just switched over to USL2 as well from NPSL. They drive crazy numbers on the men's side - over 12000 at their opener. They have a great marketing department for sure packing that many fans in for summer league soccer. Full disclosure, nephew is rostered on the men's team.

Thanks for pointing out the DC area teams that were missed in another post. The play is pretty decent and you get to see local college age players either staying in town to play or coming home. There are also some high level younger players getting some play as well.

The USL W continues to add teams every year, but it remains a short season summer league with the rosters ebbing and flowing a bit due to different commitments and callups.

I think the W overall is great and the support that many clubs teams are receiving has been really good. The new Annapolis Blues team had over 6200 fans for their first home game and Richmond had 6000 to open and averages about 4500 a game.

The clubs tend to do a great job with outreach and spend a ton of time after the games talking to young fans, signing shirts, etc.

The local "Chesapeake" division has teams only as far west a Charlottesville to VA Beach and then up to Annapolis. No DC based teams in the W League though.

It will be interesting to see how the league continues to grow and if it ever becomes something more than just the short season summer league.
