The parent community/PTA are the schools biggest strengths. Like many schools, you will find some teachers who are good and some who are lackluster and are just dialing it in. I do know of a few parents who have pulled their children out of Greenwood and are doing private for a variety of reasons in my neighborhood (social emotional or academic concerns)

We had an absolute abomination of an experience trying to get support for our child. Super unethical behavior from the principal and other "professionals." The principal is lazy and petty- she will purposefully be unhelpful and will support her staff even if they are in the wrong- if you are perceived as asking for too much. In the end, much of our kid's education happened outside the school building through private instruction. There is also a culture of kid bullying that some parents have complained about. The staff also overly rely on ed tech-- my kid spent countless hours doing math playground and other types of games. If you have a regular kid with no issues than your experience should be fine....however, I personally would definitely pick a different Olney school with better leadership or private if I could go back in time.

We really liked our daughter's first grade teacher. The curriculum should be better now that MCPS has ditched awful Benchmark and is using CKLA. Class size was not as high as the district max of 26... more like 22-24.

We've actually had pretty good experiences with special ed (speech, reading) and the evaluation and IEP process, which doesn't discount other people's negative experiences.

It's fine unless your child has some special needs. The special ed team there is petty and not looking out for the best interest of the kids.

I’m aware of the recent news of Greenwood but we have an incoming first grader. Can anyone share their experiences with 1st grade classrooms? Class size, teachers, curriculum? We’re coming from the Midwest.
