Try to make it on the standup circuit. DoorDash, Uber Eats or bartending to keep the lights on in the meantime.

Uh, not for a non-academic student with mediocre grades! Skidmore is a strong liberal arts college with a 23% acceptance rate.

This is NOT meant to be judgy. Would he be more interested in a trade? Working with his hands? The trades can be extremely lucrative and if he’s not academically inclined and doesn’t like to be in a classroom, he might not like being at a desk all day either.

ATEC at UT Dallas. My kid was so excited about the program but chose a full ride elsewhere.

I think we need more details. Is he strong enough for the BFA in comedic arts at Emerson College? Would he want to pursue that as a career?

If you have money, maybe a school like SCAD. If funds are limited, I’d really focus on a public college to save the money (since he may struggle to finish based on what you’ve described). And don’t be afraid to start off with community college.
Also, is he creative in doodling/daydreaming sort of way or does he have real artistic capabilities with technical skills and a portfolio of work?

He sounds great. Mine was similar but also academic. How about VCU?

Kid does standup sets in the hallways and launched his own hilarious comic strip for the school paper. Great sense of humor and quick verbal wit. Mediocre grades, no focus, really just not academic at all.
Not a student. Will do fine in life but not in a classroom unless it's geared to their interests.
Where to go?? What to look at?
