My DH’s Jesuit school in Jersey had caps and gowns.

Yup it's tradition at Jesuit schools (and maybe other Catholic boys schools). Another tradition is to break out the cigars after the ceremony.

A white dinner jacket is summer black tie. It is a lighter weight jacket than standard black tie and is traditionally worn in the summer for black tie events.

And they have photos in the school commons of every graduating class in the school's history wearing the same graduation tuxedo.

The history is forever. My father graduated from Gonzaga in 1965 in the white tuxedo. It’s nothing new.

Georgetown Prep does, as well

the boys at my school wore tux with dinner jacket (the white one) and girls white dresses. Many of the private schools do this. It's probably because it seems "right" to me, but I prefer this to cap and gown for high school. The dinner jacket is a "less formal" black tie.

Red robes look very Handmaid’s Tail. White robes and dresses look very bridey. Black robes look very hot.

Fordham Prep in NY does it too. Maybe it’s a Jesuit school thing.

They’re tuxedos. With black pants. Not suits with white jackets.

Just looking at pictures from Graduation ceremonies on social media. Is Gonzaga the only school that wears white suit jackets or do others in this area? It looks very Great Gatsby. What is the history of it?
