Have you tried very gentle stretches like lying down and pulling your knees to your chest and cat/cow poses?

I have also found that swimming laps was surprisingly effective at relieving my lower back but of course ymmv

Voltaren (or any gel with diclofenac). It says its for arthritis but also helps with back/muscle pain.

I did something similar riding a tiny kid's bike. I was in pain for days. One afternoon I was lying on the bed and turned over and heard a crack in my spine and was cured. I must have given myself a self adjustment. Weird.

This happened to me last November. I iced every few hours. I think I did some heat too. I rested. Like I didn't even walk if I didn't have to. It was just icing and sitting. You don't need a Doctor or the ER. I was able to begin exercising 4 days later but it may have been a bit too soon.

Good for you girl! My husband threw my back out the other night, but it was WORTH IT.

When I did this and was in terrible pain I had to do a step down steroid pack. Luckily my pcp did not make me come in and prescribed over the phone.

Go to a PT for dry needling.

Ibuprofen reduces swelling, so take it on a schedule. Don't wait til it hurts. 600mg every 8 hours (assuming you don't have any GI issues) will let you heal faster since the system isn't wasting energy on inflammation.

Look up exercises on youtube. Heat/cold good too, but you have to stabilize the muscles. Then once you get better in a few days, start doing pilates Youtube videos to strengthen core and glutes.

Do not try to do any exercise before or during vacation. After, definitely. But right now you need rest, heat, stabilization. The thermacare back heating pads recommended by PP are great. Throw your pride out the door and wear a lower back brace for a couple days -- one like this

Wishing you the best, lower back pain is awful.

We leave for a vacation this weekend and I’d love to not have to contend with this on a plane or in unfamiliar/maybe uncomfortable hotel beds.

How long does this sort of muscle strain take to heal? Any advice to speed up the process?

I don't know that it will speed up the healing process, but when I traveled with a bad back, one of those 8 hour heating pads that you wrap around your waist really helped me on the plane.
