Bring an a airmattress or ask for a cot.

I agree with the others that the problem is you expect them to share a bed. That might be okay if they were both very little, but cramming a teenager and a nearly pre-teen into an unfamiliar bed while on vacation is going to lead to tired and grumpy kids. Instead, give the sofa bed to one of them, and have the management send up a folding cot for the other. Those cots are more comfortable than the sofa bed anyway.

+1.

Seriously, how did you all travel growing up?! I think we had three kids on sofa bed for some trips. One bathroom.

No we did this recently. Sofa bed is way too narrow for 2.

My kids slept on a two person pullout couch at many hotels we went to. They were lightweights, even as teens, and therefore did not complain about the quality of the mattress. It's weight-dependent, OP. However, older DC DID complain that younger DC is a bedding hog

It’s fine. I would not pay 30% more in this case. I’ve had all 3 of my kids share a bed before if the cost of an extra room in really expensive. It’s just a few days!

Yes. Absolutely fine. And if, as some are concerned about, the bed is small then we’ve made up a bed situation with cushions on the floor. They’re kids and don’t need a separate room. We’ve traveled for years as a family this way and it’s allowed us to do some very cool things - which our kids are willing to sleep a bit rough in order to do.

For one kid, yes. Not for 2.

We've gotten to hotels and the sofa bed is a twin. I don't think that's coddled as much as a recipe for uncomfortable kids

Ha ha! OP here- I would have no problem sleeping on it myself, but I am a lot more middle class than my kids.

We don't ever do two kids on a sofa bed, some of them are tiny. If the kids are used to sharing a bed, maybe that would work? We have a family of five, and finding the right combination of beds is our biggest challenge traveling

No. At most one person can sleep on a sofa bed. They can't share it. And it's still not idea.

Do you think having kids (ages 13 and 9) sleep on a sofa bed for 5 nights is ok or should I get 2 rooms for our trip? Either way we will have 2 bathrooms and we’ll have a separate bedroom. It is either a one bedroom suite with a separate living room or 2 connecting rooms. 2 connecting rooms is 30% more.
