Okay, so, points for the Chernobyl reference. Beyond that... I can't really relate.

I don't want to be the hero in anyone's story but my own, and my story clearly shows multiple times where I have been (and a few where I fell short and had to dust off, recalibrate, and continue). I don't believe in the idea of "soulmates". Like most religious mythology, a lot of this garbage began as a control structure. It's not for me.

What keeps relationships strong is integrity, not storytelling. Storytelling goes back to your opening quote (and it's origin). It does take an incredible amount of effort to continue to fabricate plausible stories, and to deny one's own understanding of reality and what doesn't sit well with their integrity. Lies have a cost.

Which, I guess, circles back to your close. Who are you? Not in the story you tell about yourself, or the story you tell yourself in your head. Who, actually, are you? What are you actually doing? What level of responsibility are you willing to take for your actions, past and present? What is the cost of continuing with your "story" and what debt has it incurred to the reality of who you are, what you've done, and what you're currently doing (and probably making stories about/excuses for)?

Marriage, jobs, careers, comnunities, and relationships are social constructions only, often enforced by some dynamic such as religion, economics, or patriarchal institutions. It’s how we understand the real meaning to any of the above, or how we profit from these institutions that ultimately defines them.

End your misery and leave them. You are still breathing, so go build a life you love.

Humans with that the truth would always come out or karma will find you in the end or whatever, but not always. Most affairs go undiscovered. I think we need to think about human behavior, relationships, and community in a much different way than we do. We keep making baby steps to “improve” the marriage model that was created under debilitating patriarchy. We need to turn the whole thing on its head. But humans will never live up to their potential for good. Life is violent, the earth is violent. You must kill or be killed if you look at every living thing on earth. It’s chaos and it’s terrifying. Cheating is the least of anyone's concerns.
