LOL I noticed this in Pernille (Norwegian) that if there's talking while she's looking at her texts you just get the dialogue and not what the text is about. No biggie, I used context clues.

I wish Amazon Prime would let you choose captions BESIDES ENGLISH. That is the only choice FFS. Some of us are watching foreign films where we know the language.

I do also and it drives my kids nuts.

Same. Is there a way to tell which movies are subtitled? I don't even want to click into those movie at all, but I cant figure out how to know that beforehand.

I love Japanese and Korean movies. The translation quality varies, but I notice that *most* of the time they translate the text messages, because for the shows I watch, they're usually plot-essential. Sometimes things fall through the cracks, but I can figure things out from context.

You know what annoys me? Dubbing! I hate not being able to listen to the original actors' voices. It changes the atmosphere completely when something is dubbed. I also feel that way for translated literature - obviously it's great to be able to access the world's literature in one's own language, but being bilingual with a working knowledge of a third language, I've experienced watching movies or reading books in the original and then translated/dubbed version, and not getting the same feelings and atmosphere at all. With a few exceptions, originals are better.

Fwiw, I have zero interest in subtitled movies. I wish they could allow me to exclude anything not in English.
