The fifth doctor we saw diagnosed her with prurigo nodularis (PN). Not one doctor we saw previously mentioned that possibility, they all said it was pseudofolliculitis. She has been biopsied twice. It’s all over both of her legs. But she does not have the main symptom which is intense itching and scratching. We need to get another opinion to ensure this is what she has.

I am a huge fan of Dr. Ben Lockshin in Rockville, who cared for my son’s unusual dermatological issues and went above and beyond when he was stumped by referring us to other specialists when needed. But it’s hard to know what you’re looking for without more details on your child’s condition.

If you don't mind me asking what are the symptoms? My daughter who is now an adult suffered from a very rare skin condition from age of 2 til 12. We had to go to pediatric dermatologist to get biopsy diagnosis etc.

Our pediatrician referred our mysterious skin issue to Dr. Melissa Abrams in Moco. We called in April and got a July appointment but was told she was worth the wait.

When our DD was young, no one could figure out her skin condition except him. He's got many years of experience.

See if you can find a hospital based provider - Georgetown, Hopkins, Children’s. It may take time to get an appointment but they are used to dealing with uncommon and rare conditions.

How can you know your daughter has a rare skin condition if she hasn't been diagnosed.

Sometimes, a diagnosis for a common condition can be missed because it has an unusual presentation.

Sorry, no recommendation, but U.S. News and World Report lists John Hopkins as #1 in dermatology. You might see if you can see someone there.

Has her skin been biopsied? Do the derms seeing her even have a guess as to what is in the differential?

Unhappily, dermatologic pathology is not always as cut and dried as one might like.

we have been to 5 doctors in the last six months and cannot get a diagnosis for my daughter's rare skin condition.
