DP - …but if the only time you can go is July or August, it’s totally fine.

We were there in mid/late July and didn’t find it too crowded to have fun.

The waterfront destinations and islands are very much season-based tourist destinations—meaning everything won’t be open if you outside of the summer season.

You will want to swim and you should definitely charter a boat or two.

There are plenty of YouTube videos of people traveling at various times of the year, and it looks not very fun to be there in a cool, cold, or rainy period.

Re: the heat - you sightsee early in the day and explore after dark. You hit the beach when it’s hot. Regardless, the heat didn’t bother us.

If you want to swim, too cold. If you want to go to the islands, would need to check ferry schedule. Maybe also jingle online to find out whether cafés and restaurants et cetera are open as early as March.

We spent 1 night on the island of Brac in Bol. It was lovely and would highly recommend that as well.

Where else did you go besides Split?

The water is GORGEOUS! We rented an apartment in the Bacvice neighborhood.

Food recs- in Old Town:
Zinfandel, Adriatic Sushi, Portofino: each of them were FANTASTIC and the favorite place of various members of my family.
Emmiliana's Gelato (not he little one closest to the waterfront, but the one on the other side of the building) was the absolute best Gelato we ate and rivals Rome

Outside of Old Town, AE Kitchen and Wine Bar was excellent and charming and off the beaten path

such a wonderful place!

Fwiw, we visited multiple spots in Croatia last summer during a cruise and didn’t find it overwhelmingly crowded.

Imho you want to visit Croatia when it’s warm enough to swim and go out on boats. The water is gorgeous.

Hi! Any recs of hotels to stay there?

My family is just back from a week in Split, Croatia (college-aged kids) and had a fantastic time. Split has fascinating history, interesting architecture, delicious food, nice people, and access to beaches and outdoorsy things. It was a hit! I wanted to share a recommendation that I got off an archive of this list for a private tour of Diocletian's palace.
We used Josko for the tour and he was terrific. Super knowledgeable and pleasant and we learned SO MUCH about Split's history and the Old City. Just wanted to thank whoever it was that shared the rec and encourage anyone going to Split to consider using him.
