My friends husband asked her to please try harder and befriend the "important" Little League moms because it would make things easier socially. So clearly some men are into this. He also encourages her to get expensive things like hair extensions.

Yes because my networking got my exDH a job that has set him up for life! Adjunct prossor to full tenure professor. I always imagine his new family will thank me one day but of course that will never happen.

I'm not a social climber at all, but if I was anymore high maintenance, I know DH wouldn't have been interested. He's that laid back wealthy person that you would have no idea is wealthy. He wears jeans he's had for years and T-shirts he probably got for free at a conference. If he's wearing nicer or more in style clothes, it's because I bought them.

I'm mid high maintenance. I love playing around with make up and fashion, but I don't do Botox or anything (granted I don't need it yet) and I have no problem dressing down and going out with no make up and my hair in a ponytail. I don't really post on SM.

I know people on all ends of the spectrum. Some guys are laid back and love a wife who is what you describe. Some guys are like that too and have a wife like that. Some guys have zero interest in a wife like that.

If the formula for climbing socially is to consume lots of SM and makeup products then not really, that doesn't make you any different than a 14 year old.

Men want different things. I'd hate being married to a social climber but some men like it.

I don’t enjoy being married to an attractive non social climber, so I doubt it is more than an ego boost for an insecure coward.

I had a friend for awhile who became too much for me to be around so I distanced myself. She was very into social media, skin and body care, clothes, jewelry, and social climbing. Her DH seems pretty laidback. I just wonder how that works if she’s so OTT. I guess men enjoy it because then they have a hot looking wife that other men admire? Or do they secretly wish they could just have a comfortable regular looking wife who is more chill?
