They play private schools as well.

I also hear lots of JV and V teams for sports so even middle schools kids get to play.

Apparently soccer has 3 teams - academy, JV, and V.

Not sure about music, but my DCI kid has done two different dance clubs, various art, cooking, gaming, and club sport activities, in addition to middle school team sports.

It’s great that there is such flexibility so it works with all families schedules. You can do however many days it works for you depending on club interests. I also like the homework club option too for kids.

It is also good that the school helps to subsidizes the lower SES families.

Well, it’s like that everywhere and not unique to DC. Lots of kids playing at a higher level than just rec, competitive tryouts at school sports with kids who can play well and make the cut, coaches expecting higher performances overall.

It’s also nice that your kid is on a team with kids who are serious about sports and have decent skills. I would argue that more schools in DC, especially middle and high schools should support and fund their stronger sport programming departments.

As to Basis and Latin and whatever schools they play in their division, yes DCI wins lots of championships.

$135 per day?

For middle school, there are afterschool sports, clubs, and homework club. Lots of great activities - my son (now in 9th grade) did different clubs & athletics every day. You sign up by the day for a particular activity - there's an organized sign-up system. (Athletics makes things complicated when there's try-outs, which there are for some sports, but it all works out. There will be a lot of communication about it.)

Sports and clubs, etc. are all paid for middle school (not high school). It's by the trimester (which is how long clubs & sports go, though not classes - it's this way for afterschool because of sports seasons). It's $135 per day for the trimester, $60 for students receiving free/reduced lunch, with free/more discount for students receiving Extra Assistance (what the city calls at-risk). Fridays (when students get out at 1pm) are more expensive.

The clubs rotate each trimester depending on interest & teacher availability. This trimester there weren't any music/instrument learning options other than "DJ & Music Appreciation Club."

There's a lot of great programming, it's one of the (many) highlights of DCI.

Do they have any type of music/instrument learning option? We also can't find out much online.

We are starting DCI in the fall. I don’t think there is an aftercare program.

They have sports, a bunch of clubs, and also homework club for after school is what I understand at the open house.

Anyone know how much DCI aftercare costs for MS? Is it only offered full time or do they offer part time? I can't find info on their website about it. TIA
