Its not a long-term commitment to guest.

Coaches don't reach out and ask for a guest player they don't need.
Either you can or you can't.

I think simplified is just asking if coaches use guest players even if means bench regular team members and how that sits with parents. Think poster 6/1, 6:09 calls it right when says is slap in face if bench regulars players (or worse, they can’t dress) to pull in guests, but some coaches will it do to win or to slow ghost players to not return in next seasons.

When our child is asked to guest play we say yes if we can make it/if the child wants to do it (usually does). They have been on the top team at their club for awhile now so guest playing is always with a lower team. I let the coach worry about playing time. Doing some more guest playing lately as the season winds down and I think the coach is mostly just doing what he can to get wins. The coach is leaving the club and so are several of the players, so things are just generally kind of weird. I don't think the coach cares too much about what parents think because so much is going to be different next year with kids moving up/leaving/maybe quitting soccer entirely.

If a team has a full contingent able to play in a tournament, adding a guest player is a slap in the face to the team and their parents—unless said player has already agreed to join the following year.

It’s going to be coach dependent. Coaches who are focused on winning will inevitably put guest players ahead of teammates when they think it will be to their advantage. Coaches who want to develop players and are playing the long game know that their players needs minutes and use guests to fill holes only.

We guested today, intraclub as a lower level team needed an extra player. My kid played the full game.

We guested last weekend outside of the club up north for a Memorial Day tournament. Like other guesting opportunities, my kid comes off the bench in the first game and then usually starts the rest of the tournament.

We have had kids guest for our team intraclub when we needed bodies we have not traditionally invited outside of the club.

New to guesting as season ends, but if ideally using guest players would further develop them AND fill a missing player’s spot, if can’t have both, which wins out more for travel? Does it sound right that on higher teams use guests only when injuries and lower teams more likely to play even if means bench a regular for guests?
