Do not buy diamond studs for this purpose. Diamonds--other than an engagement ring--are not for daytime wear. She should not be wearing diamond studs to the office.

This is outdated advice. I and plenty of other women in the corporate world wear simple diamond studs daily.

Just because you do it, doesn't make it right. It is not outdated. It is tacky for the office.

You're buying a name. The actual value of a Hermes enamel bangle is likely around $100... just, no.

Go to a jewelry store. Not a brand name like Tiffany or Cartier but a good jewelry store like Tiny Jewel Box and pick out something that is actually worth your money.

To me “nice” isn’t enamel. It you’re thinking of a bracelet maybe take a look at David Yurman? Or something from just a regular jewelry store where you’re not paying such an inflated price just for the brand. Cartier Love is just so basic at this point.

Can you ask one of her female relatives, like mom or sister. Or ask her what are 2 or 3 stores she would like you to look in, since you don’t know what she means by nice jewelry.

I have one. It’s fun and mixes well with other jewelry. I wouldn’t purchase one from Hermes, though. There are tons of them in excellent condition on The Real Real and the like for a lot less than retail price. People buy them to reach quotas to get “invited” to buy more coveted stuff, and they resell
Them without wearing them.

A PP. I like the twist rope bracelet.

I think tennis bracelets are boring and not going to stay classic. Because anything with lots of diamonds can be suspected to be lab or fake.

Diamonds studs are classic because no matter what they are made of, they bring pleasing sparkle to the area of the face.

+1 to me “nice jewelry” = classic gemstones, pearls or real metal (not plated or filled). Depending on her style, my first thoughts would be studs (pearl or diamond); small gold hoops; gold chain necklace or bracelet; tennis bracelet; pearl necklace or bracelet. Look at mejuri or catbird for some ideas. Despite what DCUM might tell you, lab diamonds are the way to go these days and make some of these pieces much more affordable. Personally I would not wear a bangle in an office setting bc it clanks, and (I may be wrong) I don’t think the bangles are fine jewelry, but rather designer costume jewelry (ie plated) so not that different than what she has.

Just a site browser but I got curious to see what Hermes bangles look like and there are a number of pretty ones with tasteful designs.

I don't wear much jewelry but I think you've fulfilled the requirements of thoughtfully selecting something that fits the parameters of fancy jewelry without being a bank-breaking mistake.

I would get one if they can be exchanged. And say..."I thought you would like this, but there are many other designs you could exchange it for."

If you don't even want to mention an exchange, then I would just make sure she likes and wears bracelets. If she doesn't wear bracelets now, it's not likely to happen. If she does, and matches them to necklaces, you are quite on track.

I would go for a gold, silver, or black bracelet as the most versatile. You can probably tell from her wardrobe, jewelry, and glasses what would work best.

I liked the mini-Clic from just looking. And some of the patterned metal designs. One was called Chaines.

If the thin ones are meant to be worn in sets, consider whether this will become a habit (e.g., new bangle for every occasion). I'd actually prefer to get a set of 3, one time, vs. a special gift becoming routinized.

For nice bangles consider going with Cartier instead of Hermes. Hermes jewelry is fine, but really only worth purchasing if you’re playing “the game.” Otherwise stick with jewelry houses for jewelry.

Does she own any nice pearls?

Dw birthday is coming up and in addition to a trip I’d like to get her a piece of jewelry. She has commented recently about how she wants more “nice” jewelry pieces recently (vs Etsy/kitschy shop bought). She’s back to going into the downtown office once a week.

After some research I think she would probably like a nice bangle. I think some of the non-logo patterned enamel bangles from Hermes would work well to straddle formal wear/wearing to work.

Before I buy one - am I missing something that would make me reconsider? Are the enamel bangles tacky? I haven’t noticed a lot of women wearing them, but im not regularly looking at women’s wrists. Is there a consensus opinion on wide vs skinny bangles?
