I can only think of one reason why someone would have that opinion.

It holds up.

The one thing I do think changes the experience is the ability to binge it. It made the (few) sub-par episodes more noticeable when you watched closely together. And I missed the anticipation of waiting.

Totally agree. Watched it all for the first time in 2024 and really enjoyed it.

Agreed with the Sopranos take, it needs to be watched with your finger on the 30 second skip button, the gangster parts were good but the psychologist and family drama dragged it down. Mad Men on the other hand was perfection, I rewatched during Covid and it was just as great as the first time around. They really need to do a reboot with a time jump into the 80s.

I watched (for the first time) recently, and I thought it was mostly excellent. Maybe not the best series ever, but very compelling storytelling and so evocative of a time, place, and culture.

I won’t say it’s overrated but I struggled to get into it because I can’t stand the main guy’s voice.

Rewatching this after two decades and find it so subpar. I understand it needs to be taken in the context of the time it was released, but it is such a slog after season 3. It's the same story over and over and over again - a character with mental problems who needs to see a therapist. At one point, Tony, Meadow, Janice and Dr. Melfi are allllll seeing therapists. Then it is the same story over with Tony taking care of his mom, then Pauli. There were rat issues in season 1 and then again with Adrianna. And then it was rinse and repeat with Tony and his goomars. This should have ended after 3 seasons. For supposedly one do the greatest shows of all time, half of it seems extremely weak in retrospect. The Wire was so much better. So is Better Call Saul or Breaking Bad.
