OP here. You all have helped, but also left me just as confused when I started

I like the idea of picking together. But I wear platinum studs and ring while all my other jewelry is gold.

I’d go with white gold or platinum for all the reasons mentioned. I’d also shop for these in a store willing to exchange them if she prefers a yellow gold setting (Boone & Sons is great, plus they have a diamond stud exchange program where you can trade in your current studs to upgrade to a larger pair).

I only wear yellow gold jewelry, and it sounds like your wife does as well. It would feel weird to me to wear platinum or white gold earrings if the rest of my jewelry was yellow gold.

I'm an autumn (gold jewelry is a much more flattering on me that platinum) but for diamonds I might go with platinum/white gold if the setting is very subtle.
If she's expressed any opinion on this, I think that what might be ideal is for you to plan an afternoon where you go for lunch and shop for them together as a surprise. Unless you know she would not like this.

It doesn't matter for stud earrings. No one is looking closely enough to worry about yellow gold taking away from the whitish color of a D stone or something. If she likes yellow gold, just get that.

I’d go with silver color for studs. You can match them with anything as they appear to be clear.

I always prefer diamonds in a white-gold (platinum is my preference) setting for exactly the reasons you described. But some women prefer gold. If that's what your wife prefers, I'd go with gold.

I want to buy DW some new (larger) diamond stud earrings. She prefers yellow gold jewelry. I was planning on buying the earrings set in yellow gold but just came across something that said stud earrings set in yellow gold will have a yellowish tint while white gold will seem purer/clearer.

My question: would it be okay to buy a white gold setting so the diamonds will pop more or is it a faux pas to mix yellow and white gold? Give. Her preference, should I stick with yellow gold setting? I really want them to sparkle, but they're ultimately her gift.
