I sent my daughter to JR today because I’m *hoping* they’re not dumb enough to put students in danger. But I’m starting to regret my faith in Principal Brown based on the above.

I am a teacher as well (not at JR) and my personal rule from now on is if there any hint of violence planned at my school, I call out sick. There have been too many incidents where someone was in law enforcement’s radar and they still commit a crime.

This was the message sent out. What does violence against a building even mean?? Could they be more vague?


Dear Jackson-Reed High School Parents and Families,

At Jackson-Reed, we are committed to ensuring a safe school environment for our students. Communicating home about incidents that occur is critical to maintaining strong partnerships with families.

Earlier this afternoon, school administration was made aware of a threat of violence against our building. We immediately activated emergency response protocols as the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) arrived to investigate the threat and conduct a security sweep of the campus’s perimeter.

Out of an abundance of caution, school staff moved to control entering and exiting the building, but we were able to continue instruction and student movement. Please be assured that students and staff remained safe and accounted for during this time.

When the all-clear was given, MPD was on hand to support our dismissal to ensure safe passage as students left the building or transitioned to afterschool programming. Additionally, DC Public Schools (DCPS) Police has placed Jackson-Reed on special attention, meaning there will be an increased law enforcement presence during tomorrow morning’s arrival.

Will after school activities and dismissal procedures be changed?

Are other area schools also on alert?

Text message from JRHS at 1:54 PM on 5/29/25

“Jackson Reed High School Families: JRHS is currently on alert status as law enforcement investigates an external threat. During alert status, entering or exiting the building is controlled. Students and staff are safe, and we will share more information as we are able. Thank you.”

JR is currently on alert and has been so for about an hour. Reportedly there is a threat in the neighborhood so entry and exit to the building is being limited. But classes are otherwise operating as usual.
