Poolesville town kids are great and everyone gets along. Your child can decide the end of their junior year if they want to earn the magnet ISP certification. My child has only run into 1 teacher they didn’t like. That’s pretty good. There is a lot of flexibility in the ISP program to take a variety of classes. The Poolesville town is a wonderful community.

I’ve had two children in PHS magnet one graduates this year and they both had great friends in ISP. It’s not obvious who is in which house since Humanities kids take humanities classes with humanities kids and math/science classes with everyone and SMCs kids take math/science with SMCs kids and humanities classes with everyone etc.
My son was not in SMCs but was basically adopted by the SMCs students because his electives were 75 percent SMCs students.
Please note about 25 percent of class this year earned either NMSF/NMF or commended scholar. If your goal is HYPS, it’s tough. For a school even like GT, you’ll need a 1570 SAT score or above and near perfect APs.
I would try to talk with counselor in terms of what scores you need to get into different colleges. I’ve heard it’s difficult to get into UMD for example from PHS especially this year since they don’t want too many kids from one school.
Great curriculum and students. We moved from Catholic to PHS and are happy we did so.

OP, there may not be that many upcounty posters on DCUM.
Local Poolesville teens are in the Independent Studies house unless they applied and were accepted into the Global Ecology, Humanities, or SMACS houses.
My teen was in the Humanities house and her friend group included people from all the houses — ISP, Global, SMACS, and Humanities. Kids from different houses mix in classes, sports, and clubs. I’ve never gotten the sense of one group being outsiders or being looked down on.
We had a great experience with PHS administration, teachers, counselors, and other students.
The new school building is in use — it is really nice — with the first phase of construction finishing up a year ago in Spring 2024. The second phase is still in progress (cafeteria, library, gym, outdoor courtyards).

We are considering a switch in HS (Catholic to Poolesville HS) for our rising 10th grader via a physical move. Trying to get some qualitative data on how the school feels culturally for non-magnet, local Poolesville town kids. Is there dynamics of non-magnets kids are the 'dumb' or outsider students within the school?
