When I'm being tailgated, I either tap my breaks, sloooow down even more, or put on my hazard lights. If I am able, I pull over and allow them to pass. As a pp mentioned, the tailgating often happens on one lane residential streets, with cars parked on either side. The speed limit is typically 15-25mph there. Do they think they can drive through me?

It did not. However, I am fairly certain she was aware of my frustration, and that of several other cars who were actually honking, so perhaps she will come to realize that she is a menace. It is true that overly aggressive drivers cause accidents, but overly cautious ones aren't much better.

This happens to me. No, I am not going slow... I am going slightly above the speed limit. I move over if I can and let the person pass me. It truly only has 3 seconds to my commute, so no big deal. I rather be safe than sorry. If I can not pass, then I continue at my rate, pull right or left when I can. I basically get out of their way.

Agree with OP. There are left exits folks. In any other part of the country, folks would just apologize, and try to drive better. Here, people double down on justifying their aggressive behavior, and then do it more often.

I don’t mind going around people who are slow in the left lane, but I don’t think tailgating does anything. It’s dangerous and I don’t think someone going slow in the left lane even notices tailgating. But sometimes they notice people going by them on the right.

Also, tailgaters, remember that people can use the left lane as long as they are actively passing someone, even if you want to go faster. If someone is in the left lane going 70 and passing traffic, and you roar up going 85, don’t tailgate them until they have had a chance to get back over.
