What is stopping “pervs” from recording you anywhere busking or not? What “nefarious” uses of such a video are you worried about? Do you not realize that we are recorded by video almost everywhere in public at all times?

I'm not in the DC area, but my ES-age DD is in a children's musical theater troupe, takes private voice lessons, does the school musical, and has sung in the school talent show. Surely you have these things where you live.

Some ideas - a little tangential but maybe helpful.

Elementary school talent show

Karaoke party with friends at a business or at home

Reserve local park gazebo/party pavilion that allows music

Find a vocal teacher who helps younger talents and get her lessons/ask them

Childrens' choir

Instead of busking, I'd try a party pavilion rental at a park favored by kids as suggested above.

Another thought...in our town, the high school band, orchestra, and choir kids play songs outside local businesses to fundraiser.

Maybe if your kid is doing a fundraiser, she could find a business (I suggest an indie pet store) that would allow it.

I suggest cross-training with Ed Sheeran songs. Some of his videos show home movies of him as a tiny musician and I think as a teen busker. I think Ed Sheeran songs would be very lucrative.

Our local one in Arlington used to have the MS kids play. Now they require auditions. I miss the down home goodness of the MS players.

I have a six year old. Concerts in the living room with relatives, video chats with grandparents, awesome. Busking is a terrible idea.

Please don’t subject commuting adults to a child’s singing. That’s what recitals are for.

Why would you subject your 6yo to that? If she wants an audience then sign her up for voice lessons that have built in recitals. Volunteer at nursing homes. Sign up for singing at sporting events. Or better yet, start a YouTube channel so you can send the links to friends and family for comments and likes.

It's okay to say no to your child. Let her put on a performance for family members who love her and will clap heartily for her. She doesn't need to deal with strangers walking past her ignoring her, tossing trash into a hat she has out for tips, and rolling their eyes at her or saying things like "Stay in school" or "get a new hobby" if she's not a great singer. And as her parent, you can't judge whether or not she is.

She can sing anywhere so long as she is not busking for tips. But I agree with the above.

My 6-year-old singer wants to sing for an audience, preferably on a stage (She's got a set of about 10 songs, David Bowie mostly). I'm thinking busking. Where are good spots? Do we need a permit? Or any other suggestions where she can perform? Thanks!
