If a coach with a secret group chat doesn't ring alarm bells for you, I dont know what to say

Have an investigation opened up on the Coach because he has a group chat for next year‘s team? Wow. No wonder people don’t want to coach and be teachers anymore.

It depends on what level you’re talking about and if the regular season is over or not. My DD is attending the practice of her new ECNL club because the coach has asked new players to join the practices. It’s a way for new and current players to start playing together - soccer is a lot about team dynamics and meshing playing styles so the sooner that starts the better for a competitive team. I don’t see a problem with it at all. Now if the season isn’t over and you’re travel/ rec league or something, I can see how that can be annoying.

I have read here that it is happening at our club but I have seen no evidence. FWIW, I have a kid on second team that will be on top team next year. Although they played up a number of times this spring, were even rostered for a tournament with the top team, and practiced up periodically all year, they have not been asked to train up the remainder of this year and I haven’t seen any kids from outside the club brought in for training except the normal kid here and there that you see all season.

In fact, there are a few players moving up and none of them are training up the remainder of the season and most have been asked to be quiet about placement.

This was our experience as well coming out of rec. It actually helped a lot.

We are changing clubs for the first time and we are still practicing and competing with our current club and will transition in the summer/fall to the new club.

this is the new norm for us.

My kid was specifically asked by the coach to come to all the practices after tryouts. But, he is coming from rec so doesn't have a current travel team.

I can see both sides of this:
Coach wants to integrate them immediately to save transition time.
Perhaps their current team has already wound down for the season, or they are being iced out because they are moving?

But having a training with 24-26 12 year old girls can also feel and look unwieldy.

Is it normal to have the kids who have accepted offers for next season to continue to come to every practice. Obviously to tryout and a few practices to be evaluated and/or decide if you want to join. But, once they have committed, shouldn't they go back to their other club until fall? Or is this normal?
