Funny that my kids applied to several schools including Tulane, McGill and St Andrews….Tulane is great school. Not for everyone. My son was accepted to all 3 plus USC and NYU. Tulane is Fun and a great environment. But he decided to go to U of St Andrews.

Tulane is ranked 63. It is a pretty good school.

It is also a manageable size. Not every kid wants to go to a huge school.

Absolutely love the school. One of my kid’s attended and is doing really well post-grad.
Students are smart, engaged and really into serving the community. DCUM loves to hate Tulane, but is definitely considered a great school in NYC, LA, etc. People are shocked when they see 8 kids are going from Sidwell this year, but they probably have never visited the school. Don’t believe the haters! Go visit.

I am a parent and I like NOLA.

My dc is interested in it but I worry he wouldn’t fit in. He’s not a partier, and he will be coming from a small catholic school. (We are not from DMV fwiw).

I loved it on the visit . Honestly pretty much all of it appealed. Looked like a happy place with a lot going on. My son didn’t go there but I get it.

I grew up in the South and my brother went to Tulane. A lot changed for the school following Katrina - they eliminated a fair share of majors and laid off a ton of employees and professors, which I think was kind of a blow to it's reputation.

I will say my brother was NOT a partier - he was pretty serious about his academics, and it definitely took him a while to find his people. His major (Mechanical Engineering) was eliminated, which kind of severed all ties with the school for him, which I think was unfortunate.

I have heard the current ratios (male/female) are pretty skewed as well. Not sure if that is a factor for your student.

I always thought Tulane was a perfectly respectable school. Never heard anyone trash it until moving to the DMV.

I was very much hoping my kid would not end up there.
