Doesn't matter how YOU feel about it-- It's all about what the cat will actually use. One of ours will go anywhere, one will only use clay. We have both crystal and clumping, and I don't have strong feelings either way.

I like Dr Elsie's litter. Clumps well, not too dusty.

My cat did that, too, until I put hard food about a foot from the litter box. Cat just eats the food now.
I like the smell and it’s really very cheap if you get tractor supply pine pellets (horse section not cat section).

We use walnut litter. Clumps but isn’t dusty like clay. It scatters if your pet is a dasher out of the litter box, but easy to sweep.

Can you combine clay and crystal to get the benefits of both?

I use clay. I like that it clumps, which makes it easier to scoop. It also does not smell if you scoop every day and change all the litter once a week.

I have tried crystal litter, but it seemed to smell more and since it didn't clump, there was visible liquid pee on the bottom of the litter box even though I scooped every day.

I also think my cat seems to prefer the clay. She's more thorough about covering up after she uses the litter box when she has clay litter. She seemed to find it more difficult to cover up messes with the crystal, so would just leave poo uncovered, which did smell if it happened while we were out or she was alone for the day.

So, clay for me.

*I think it is psycho to consider WASHING sand from a litter box: wtf? I don't even want to know what process that person used to wash the sand.

Oh hell no.

You know how you go to the beach, and still find sand everywhere even 6 months later? Imagine having a sandbox INSIDE your home? It's going to get stuck in paws and fur and it will be EVERYWHERE X 1000.

What about plain sand? Can even wash it and use it indefinitely.

Eco friendly, cheap, reusable, clean, available everywhere.

It's pretty good. Seems to not smell. It doesn't track like clay but it does get on the floor even with a pad. Not much though.

It's kind of expensive. But I could not stand the clay dust and the 'worlds best' smelled like farm corn.

I can't do pellets. Tried it, and the cat tries to eat them. I'm getting tired of dusty clay that tracks everywhere. Does anyone use crystal litter for their cats? do you like it? Pros and cons?
