Just purchase a sim in whatever country you plan to stay in.

Almost anywhere in Europe you can go to a cell phone store and for $20-$30 get a sim card for your travels. Just make sure to tell them what other countries you'll be traveling in to get the appropriate plan.

The summary is that you should use an eSim.

I always used AIRALO which connects you with the local cellular companies in the country you are visiting. Usually you will only get data not phone service.

Use an eSim. That's the cheapest option and it works well.

DS will be travelling in Europe with friends for three weeks in June. Any suggestions for mobile phone carriers for that period? Using Verizon would be a very expensive option.
