It's nice not to HAVE to work but it makes one weirder and weirder as they age. There is an inability to compromise. Priorities do not align with those of most people. When things don't go their way there are extreme reactions, crying suicide or resort to childish behavior. All those weird tics of youth become exaggerated with each passing year.

At some point the never needing to work becomes inability to work and inability to adapt to changes. The ones who never married become impossible to marry. The ones who did marry end up in a co-dependent drama where they have no normal-ish people around them because they are weirder and more extreme versions of themselves with each passing year. The world has to accomodate to them, not the other way around.
I have known a few people like this and watched this develop over several decades.

This is us exactly. Our kids technically would not have to work, but that’s exactly why we want them to work. We live far below our means and our kids are better for it. Money in the bank, not in the driveway.

My DH came from money. Senior exec father with huge corp. Mother had decent amount of money too.

Then it all went poof when DH was in his 20s.

Sh-- happens, just sayin.

We have a lot of millions in the stock market, but it can evaporate in a moment if there's WWIII or Act of God. So I expect my kids to get into careers that make them financially independent. And once they reach a certain age... they can determine for themselves what they want to do.

Our kids are young teens and wouldn't have to work a day in their lives.

But they don't know that, we won't tell them, and we don't live in a way that makes it obvious.

They'll learn more as they become adults, but will be expected to have already established careers doing whatever they find their way to doing.

Who’s to say their investments or property will be worth anything if the bottom really falls out of the labor market?

What’s the point in worrying about the future labor market? Our parents weren’t doing that 30 years ago. We will evolve and adapt. I’m so sick of hearing about how AI will eliminate all jobs in 5 years, from people who just want attention for splashy headlines.

My well-educated young adult son needs to work to pay his bills. His sister has severe SN and will never be able to so we have to support her for the rest of her life. We help our son with large purchases (car, computer, air travel home). We have life insurance including a large second-to-die policy that will go to them both when we pass.

Depends who DD marries.

Oh my goodness, I'd never want for my kids to not need to work. I do have familiy members who will be leaving money to my kids, but hopefully they'll be around for a long time and even if not, my kids won't get access to the money until they are old enough to have needed to work to live.

My kid will never need to work, but I believe she is in a small minority. It is expensive to live for 80 years and also to retire. I doubt you have enough money to provide this for your children. Are you able to leave them 15 million each?

Besides that, have seen the lives of spoiled rich kids who never work or are “artists?” They are not happy. Everyone needs an occupation.

I hear parents around me worried about today's labor environment but know for a fact that many of them have enough money and/or property to make it so their kids would never *need* to have a job. Do they just want their kids to have even more money? Why are so many people worried when our kids would be just fine without ever having a career?
