What portion of newly-admitted internationals do not have a visa appt yet? I'm not familiar with what this timeline typically looks like.

Why would US parents be panicked?

Students have already paid deposits; most internationals will likely adopt a wait-and-see attitude while applying for visa and deciding in August whether to come. Few will definitively say 'I no longer want to come'.

Or you will see the Ivy scramble in August (like Wake sometimes does) and it will be moving chess pieces.....

I was just wondering this today, whether universities routinely do any vetting of international applicants for things that could impact visa processing.

^^

'Effective immediately, in preparation for an expansion of required social media screening and vetting, consular sections should not add any additional student or exchange visitor (F, M, and J) visa appointment capacity until further guidance is issued septel, which we anticipate in the coming days,' the cable states.

Dartmouth has not officially closed. Class if full, WL still open I assume for any melt. Their update said June would probably be when officially closed.

I don’t think any of this will happen.

Trump will be blocked.

I bet it will start in the coming week.
They might slowly start "over-admiting" knowing what it is coming.
Watch what Dartmouth does. Their new GC is close to the WH and might have more visibility about the legal shenanigans over the next few months.

The worst thing for these schools will be having empty full-pay seats from abroad in August. They know they will now have international melt - because certain folks - from certain countries - will absolutely have a hard time with their visas. Better to overenroll now because the melt will come.

My prediction: They all open up. Its too many students and they'll pick full pay US students (or if the internationals got aid, replace with a kid with the same need profile).

Since Yale (and Dartmouth, and others) have officially "closed" their WL, what happens if the international (full pay, presumably) students they'd admitted can't get their visas processed due to the new (as of today) EO?

Will these ivies be forced to reopen their WLs? Its almost June...
