Type Homeserve in search and you will see threads going back to 2016 etc for example

OP, there was a thread about this within the last 6 months - not being snarky.... just trying to steer you somewhere you may find more input. I was one of the posters that replied which is why I recall. Bottom line, for the vast majority it's considered a waste to buy sewer/water line insurance.

It was worse than having no insurance. If there is a small exterior water line break, there are plenty of emergency companies you can find with online reviews these days. We needed something more involved, and the insurance company made it worse and wasted our time. Yes, we had to fix walkway and landscaping ourselves too. We had a mere trikle of water coming into the house for months as DH and I argued with insurance, finally gave up and took care of it ourselves. We had small children at the time. It was purely awful.

We had to do a water line repair. It was not covered because it exceeded the maximum distance from the house. If you’re considering it, just make sure you know what you’re buying.

One other thing, incidentals like restoring landscaping and replacing driveways and side walks weren’t covered.

For reference our repair cost $4k a few years ago. But estimates were as high as $25k. We learned more than we ever wanted to know about this.

Can anyone smarter than me offer advice on the constant solicitations I’m receiving from Washington gas offering gas and water line insurance by homeserve? I have read stories about people having to spend thousands of dollars on repairs, particularly for waterlines from tree damage or other random things. But it’s still not really clear to me if this is worth it. I’m particularly turned off by the constant solicitations I’m receiving in the mail because feels really aggressive and a bit fear mongery.

In case it matters, my Fairfax county home was built in 1986. We have gas and water coming in from the street across a large front lawn to the house. Is it worth getting this insurance?
