Subject: Mcps graduation at umbc: tips?
Graduates had to be there at 7:30 am for the 9 am last year (RM) so we all were very early. Maybe this is why we didn’t deal with long lines of traffic or having to park very far. I agree with having a meeting spot for afterwards. Also agree that this is a great venue, enjoy and congratulations!

This from two years ago, but I agree with the backup-- including a backup just to take the highway exit. Go early (or have someone do an early carpool with several kids, and then others can go a bit later with grandparents).

Husband dropped off daughter first and we came later with the grandparents.
I don’t think he had to wait 45 minutes to drop her off. He was probably pretty early.
But he did say guests started to line up in front of the stadium and needed to use the bathroom but guards did not allow them in the building. Guess they did not want people to start to find seats, etc.
There are parking lots close to the stadium but I noticed lots of people just parked in the street parking—maybe those were graduates?
There are two ways into the parking lot so you might want to scope that out ahead of time.
Yes to agreeing on a meet up spot! But graduate might be with their friends taking photos. You will find them eventually.
And if you happen to be the second graduation at umbc there will be an overlap time where graduates are leaving and next graduates are arriving which might feel more chaotic. But hey at least you didn’t have to get up at 5:30 in the morning to get there on time!

Last year, the graduates had to arrive at 8 for a 9 am start. It was so backed up- cars were in line for 45 minutes to drop their kids off. Best advice is to not follow the big line of cars and go straight at the circle off the highway. Find any parking garage and just walk to the stadium. Also, before your graduate actually walks in (they have a separate entrance), pick a meeting place for after.
Other than that, it’s a fantastic venue for graduation, so just enjoy the day!
