Mine is no shoes in the house. We always wore shoes growing up and it was just so messy. Which is sort of related to another change I grew up in a never nude family we were always fully dressed sunrise to sunset shoes included. DH grew up on an island with basically hippie parents and they were pretty much a naked family, he himself didn't really wear clothes until he was 5 and then it was pretty much just underwear or swim shorts. Until we had kids he'd walk around in the nude unless we had visitors. since kids he will wear shorts and usually a t-shirt. Parenting wise we're somewhere in between definitely not never nudes like my family but our kids don't wander about nude either.-tops and bottoms required for meals and visitors.

We definitely washed hands in the 80s, though given they had to give handwashing lessons during Covid, your family wasn;t the only one lacking in hygiene.

BIL wandering around PP's kitchen in undies (and the associated very strong opinions about whether or not this was ok) got me to thinking about house rules, practices, and overall ways of living that were par for the course when you were a kid and you made a concerted effort to change for your own family. I'm the "family gave me no privacy" poster who has my family respect a closed door. We knock and wait before just walking in. A few others:

Morning car rides to school were always tense with my mom. She was working hard and stressed out, so I get it, but it made the start to the day really rough for us as teens. I make sure mornings with DD are peaceful. It doesn't have to be some bonding/overly positive experience, but we don't fuss or stress out before work and school, and everyone starts their day peacefully.

We talk about money. Not in an age-inappropriate way, but DD knows how much things cost, knows my salary, knows how much taxes are, etc. Those conversations were off limits with my boomer parents and as a result I was financially pretty illiterate as a young adult. Trying to ensure DD is much more savvy.

Curious as to other's experiences.
