Borrow guide books from the library before you buy to see which one suits your style. Or take the library book on a trip!

Don't follow travel fashions, for example if everyone's going to Portugal/Alaska/other places this year, don't go there.

Visit second or third cities if everyone else is going to capital citizens. Read up on how to use the subway/bus system before you go. Try local restaurants that appeal without reading reviews first. Stop for coffee and cake for a break. Talk to the locals. Visit minor museums. Put down the phone.

I've got two:

1. Never travel abroad without immodium. Here's looking at you, Costa Rica.

2. Just take the trip. Stop waiting for the perfect time of year, or when you have enough money to do it in luxury or whatever is holding you back. For us, it's just going and taking whichever kids can join us instead of trying to line up the schedules of five young adult kids. Just go.

Put your prescriptions, chargers and a change of clothes in your carry on in case of delays or lost luggage.

I agree with this, especially the second bit. Just as you can't read every book in the library, you can't visit every site or do every activity. Pick a few that appeal and try things not on everyone else's list. Also try and relax - maybe do a couple of things a day, rather than doing a tourism marathon.

Most of the world cannot be seen with a nonstop flight.

Yeah that's not a thing anymore with airlines.

Travel cubes make things easier especially when you’re moving hotels.

Splurge for the nicer hotels, but get the cheapest room at the nicer hotel. Sometimes this works out to be less expensive than a nicer room at a mid hotel.

Deacades ago when I was whining about DH scheming for too many work trips to parlay into overseas vacations, he said:
"We can go now and not go later, or we can not go now and not go later."
Covid. Orthopedic surgeries with complications. Medical stuff. Age.
Only places we stil really want to go and never have but are content if it doesn't happen are Egypt (Pyramids, Luxor, Sharm), Galapagos.

Don't go to Disneyworld over Thanksgiving.

It could be literally anything, just the one bit of advice you give to others. It could be location-specific, relaxation-specific, transportation-specific, packing-specific, etc.

What’s that one tip or piece of advice you just have to share?
