Just bring an appetizer every time you go. Don’t offer, just bring one.

I swear you posted about this last year.
I always eat before I go anywhere, and I certainly feed my kids. One never knows when/if food will appear and if it’s edible.

If you like the BBQ, eat beforehand and don’t say anything. If you don’t like it, stop going.

Why would you put your kid in this situation?

Skip this BBQ and go to a different one.

When she gets mad just laugh and say, Yes, we ate before we came, and of course we'll eat dinner, since we haven't had any food in four hours now.

Does she only eat one meal per day?

What’s the problem? Stop going. Or know you need to eat first and who cares if your kid says something. She’s the one with the food issues.

I learned early on in my marriage that the ILs were extremely slow with dinner. I brought food as an appetizer and often we ate on the way before arriving. Yes, we went through a drive through. We definitely did this when we had kids. This is the same situation.

We have a friend who will not start cooking for a dinner or BBQ until everyone gets there.

She will provide drinks but no appetizers so “we don’t spoil our appetite.”

She does this to kids too. Last dinner I had to sneak snacks to my son (and myself too) because he was going out of sorts because he was hungry. He is 5.

So yesterday before her BBQ husband decided we should go out for lunch-small lunch-beforehand.

So we get to the BBQ and we’re grateful we ate ahead of time because another attendant was about an hour late.

At one point, someone mentioned they were hungry too and my son piped up “oh we ate before we came here.” The host got angry saying “now you probably aren’t going to eat dinner.”

I told her-he needs to eat like at daycare . She didn’t buy it.

But it was 3 hours before we got to eat-and again just drinks no cheese or crackers or anything.
