Would you say something if the daycare worker smelled of alcohol every day? If so then report her.

I would.
-Daycare worker.

What do you do as a teacher when the parents at drop off and pick up smell like weed? And the child's cot blankets and sheets smell too. Unfortunately it's not a mandated reporter issue.

Marijuana smell on the clothes is a problem. You don’t want a young child inhaling that any more than you want them inhaling tobacco smell.

But there isn’t reason to assume that the smell comes from her personal use at a time that would impact her ability to be a good teacher. The appropriate thing here is for the school to let her know that the smell is noticeable, and that she should keen clean clothes at school and freshen up when she arrives.

If you are observing behavior consistent with being high then that’s a different story.

Thank you!!

Imagine something happened under this person’s care and a kid was hurt. Would everyone shrug and say “it wasn’t my business?!”

Report it. Also, even though it’s a federal daycare, she would not be a federal employee. The daycares are contracted out. Definitely express concern about it though.

Report her to the director of the daycare. They have a business to run and this is very bad for business.

This is a myob. It’s not harming anyone and I can only imagine this daycare worker is low paid. Don’t ruin her life over something so minimal.

I would let the director know and I would also state that you understand that there may be a valid reason other than the person being high, but you think it should be respectfully investigated. There is a way to do this without being crazy about it.

Personally if I were running a daycare I’d want to know. Additionally, if there is a possibility this person is high on the job, that would certainly violate the daycare policy and would be completely inappropriate.

Do the other people at the daycare have noses?

This is not a big deal. MYOB. Everyone smells like it now.

Is there a possibility she has permission for medical marijuana?

Since this is not your child's teacher, I think you have less status to inquire.

She may ride in cars that smell like weed.

My son recently took an Uber which was full of weed smell. He really thought it might be the driver.

There is a new-ish teacher at my child’s daycare that arrives at the same time I drop off every day. Every day she has the odor or marijuana on her. You’d think the directors would notice too, but this has been going on for several weeks. I don’t know her name as she is not my child’s teacher and I don’t want to accuse her of something that is inaccurate. Maybe a family member uses it and it permeates her clothes. While we are in DC where it is legal this is a federal center where they are federal employees. I don’t want to jeopardize her employment if it’s not her. Should I report it or myob?
