Mommies? Why do you assume all of us have children? So presumptuous. Anyway, it sounds like your MIL is honestly not long for this earth. Once her GI track starts shutting down, which it sounds like it is doing, the other organs will fail.

She's been passing gas a fairly abnormal amount. No, I'm not a medical professional, but I did take a couple of pre-med courses in college, and it doesn't seem like something to ignore, especially at her age. DH has mentioned in the past that pretty severe stomach conditions are common in their family, and I'm getting quite worried for her health. I've brought this up to DH, but he just acts like I'm mocking his mother when I'm doing nothing of the sort. I love my MIL and I'm scared. What would you suggest doing?

Don’t say anything OP unless you bring it up in the context of yourself and gas issues.

It sounds kind of like OP has health anxiety and is the type to run to the doctor just because she has gas. That's fine but it's not ok to project that onto other people especially when it's an embarrassing issue and it comes off as concern trolling.

No matter how much YOU are concerned, your husband ONLY mentions. If he's not willing, not concerned, or MIL doesn't take it seriously, YOU as DIL do not mention it to her.

Maybe a whoopee cushion would help her to see?

Does she go to a doctor got regular physical check ups? I was able to call one of my parent's doctor's offices and mention something I was due my parent wouldn't bring up but was concerning. Indeed it ended up being an issue that the doc might have missed.

If you could get your husband to call, that would probably be best. They told me "you can leave a message but if you're not an authorized person we can't divulge anything to you." Thankfully my parents doctor had their own voice mail for patients so I could leave a message there.

Tell your husband, you might be right, it may totally be no big deal, but we're not doctor's so let's let the doc decide.

I would suggest you never EVER address a group of people as "Hi there mommies!" again in your life under any circumstances.
