The cats sometimes get accidentally trapped in neighbors' garages or hide under cars. It doesn't hurt just to let neighbors know to keep a lookout for these pets. Society truly only cares about themselves these days. Just take yourself off of NextDoor.

Geez have a heart OP. 😻

For some people - losing a pet can be very traumatic.
Dog or cat.

Though I personally feel that those who let their cats roam around outside vs. keeping them indoors do not deserve to have kitties.

More and more people are fed up with stray cats killing wildlife, birds, and destroying and stinking up property.

Anyone who wants to keep their HOUSEcats alive, should keep them in the house, as their name implies.

This is a sentiment that is growing across the country I noticed in the last year or so.

What I'm not fond of are the posts seeking pet adopters. I foster dogs, but know not to spam my neighborhood listserv with the dogs that I care for that are up for adoption. The rescue posts on its social media, and Petfinder, and we hold adoption events. That way only interested people come to find us. It's a little rude to post every adoptable cat and dog on neighborhood listservs, because if every foster human did this, that's all you'd ever see.

+1

And it certainly doesn't warrant a neighnorhood alert.

They post it as lost and found/missing person so if you have the Nextdoor app you get alerts as if it’s an emergency. Because you can’t keep track of Mr. wiggles is not my problem.

I still don’t understand how reading a post ā€œmakes it your problemā€.

You sound really insensitive. I have noticed more posts lately too and I’m one who doesn’t believe in letting cats roam. I’ve also noticed an uptick with dogs who get away from the pet sitter. It’s just further examples of how many irresponsible pet owners there are these days.

But since I’m kind, I absolutely keep an eye out for any of the missing animals I’ve seen posted.

I had a neighbor who let her black and white cat run loose. Every now and then "Philip" would roam too far, and she'd post absolutely panic-stricken messages to literally every forum she could find, demanding that the whole city stop and help her track down the cat she willingly left outside every day.

After it happened the second time, I looked up her social media. She's been pulling this stunt as long as she's had the cat. It's some sort of disorder. Attention-seeking behavior, for sure.

Lately next-door has been overrun with missing cat posts. Isn’t there another place where people can post these things?
