What you need is medical evacuation if things go south. I know two people who needed it and were very glad they had it.

No. Your insurance highly likely covers any emergencies abroad. DH has surgery for broken foot that's covered. It does need to be documented as an emergency however.

BC/BS covers us but when we’ve needed it we’ve found it’s easier to just pay out of pocket— in most places medical care won’t bankrupt you like in the US.
