You might be right about sinema, but I think Manchin truly thought republicans were acting in good faith and that by preserving the filibuster he would prevent extremist policies. He looks like a total fool.

The GOP in the Senate overrode the GAO’s and parliamentarian’s ruling this morning by using a technical tactic by to amend how the Congressional Review Act is applied. In short, the Senate decided they will now directly determine when the CRA can be used to revoke waivers and regulations, rather than the GAO and Senate Parliamentarian. They then used this new authority to revoke California’s ability to set its own clean air and vehicle emissions standards.

I expect they will use this precedent to violate the Byrd Rule with new Big Beautiful Bill, which includes many policy provision not related to spending or taxes.

The filibuster is effectively done, folks.
