Agree. Big stats make it seem like “ everyone is doing it” so it is ok.

Guilt, never leaves. Can be suppressed ant times, but it is always inside, causing damage.

With less "eyes on the street" people had affairs in greater numbers.

A while ago, someone mentioned a post-Covid affair tsunami effect, and I really believe this. Many people downright lost their minds in the last few years and doubled down on selfishness, narcissism and sinfulness to the absolute detriment of their marriage and families and all that is good.

I hope the tide turns back to morals, integrity and goodness again
Me too! What's the post-Covid affair tsunami effect? I would have been fine with a regular old divorce since he was so unhappy and not all the tawdry baggage that came along with his being unable to leave the marriage before finding someone who was willing to service him.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It happened to me too. And I hope for the same

Hugs

It’s really easy to meet someone at work, online, a hobby, etc. People crave attention and the dopamine hit you get. I think the numbers are probably higher since some will never admit it.

Please understand this and then accept that you will never know the true number, and probably shouldn't care in the first place.

? why shouldn't a married person care?

Because you only care about one person, presumably, not averages.

Agree. While anyone can cheat (especially with the right opportunity), the people who do cheat typically do so numerous times.

My ex’s AP was with a married woman. Women have been cheating in much higher numbers than the “old days” with the advent of online dating (stay at home moms have opportunity to meet men) and increasing numbers in the work place.

But, yes, shocked to learn of so many other marriages that haven been rocked by infidelity —marriages that appear happy, and likely are. You only hear about the ones that blew up or one of the spouses left to be with someone else- but there are so many still married that worked through it and now happy or just staying for the kids.

Knowing you aren’t alone as a betrayed spouse and seeing other very attractive, very accomplished smart, strong women also having it happen to them makes you feel a little less alone.

With the advent of 23 and me type things this would have been verified years ago if true.

The percentages are higher than the old 20% adage around since pre-internet/online dating, and before women were represented more in the workforce.

Nowadays :

Estimates are that 25%-40% of women and 50%-60% of men will have an affair during the lifetime of their marriage.

This makes a lot more sense to me and is more in line with the % of first marriages ending in divorce.
