I don’t know that DCI is an option for OP. I think they would have mentioned it.

How many students out of any particular cohort pursue the IB Diploma at DCI? Where can I see this information?

+1. Better programming with IB, much more curriculum offerings and language offerings, lots EC and sports. Then there is the opportunity to continue all this in high school and get the IB diploma.

It sounds like these students do.

I know several families who made the move from a bilingual charter to a OA in mid elementary. All of them are happy with the change.

OK but middle school is another issue and I hear lots not happy about Adams.

It’s definitely not a typical middle school experience like Deal or even DCI. You have to decide if your kid wants that.

Also interested in hearing more about how Adams differs from a traditional middle school experience. Is that just due to the size and language, or are there specific differences in the school culture?

We know of an Oyster family who is hoping to get into DCI.

I hope they aren't puttin too much faith in that possibility. Last year 3 6th graders got in without an ES affiliation and they all had sibling preference.

What does this mean that it is not a typical middle school besides the difference in how grades are broken up between the upper and lower schools? Isn't typical middle school mostly terrible?

I would not make the move to 5th to go to Adams.

We know of an Oyster family who is hoping to get into DCI.

A lot of people can’t afford to live IB for OA. Or want to live in a tiny apartment.

We are currently in 4th and very happy in another bilingual school but thinking about middle school. We struck out in the lottery this year, and if we strike out next year we will probably move and like the idea of moving in-bounds for Oyster-Adams. It works for our commutes, isn't too far from our existing community, and gives us a path through 12th with a few more years of bilingual education. I do worry that the OA commuity is so tight-knit that it would be hard for my DC to make friends. I am a little surprised at how few families are considering the same path we are. Has anyone started at OA in a later grade? Thoughts on transitioning at 5th vs 6th? Thank you.
