I’d be super surprised if those brands that are supposedly made in the U.S. are buying U.S. pulp. I bet the pulp is from Canada or maybe even China. There is not a lot of pulp processing anymlrr in US —an amazing number of paper mills closed in the 90s and early 00s.

FWIW, there’s a decent argument that all TP is eco friendly, even if it’s from trees. Because at this point tree farms frowned for paper are more environmentally friendly than most other land uses. Yes natural forest is even better. But a paper farm industry is preferable to another strip mall, McMansions, etc. Trees are good for the environment even if you cut them down, process them, and plant new ones.
But the bleach to get the TP white is not so great. And the ink and plastic they use on the packaging is even worse.

If someone invents a TP made from Kudzu, they could make a fortune in the US.

Everything from China is slave labor, so minimize as much as possible.

How would you define "eco friendly" and how would you know or trust the marketing campaign to tell you the truth?

Everything is delivered via trucks, trains, boats, etc. and it takes fossil fuels to power them all, so no matter if it comes from a renewable source like trees or bamboo, it is still not "eco friendly" in any sense.

Pulp mfg is the leftover waste being put to use to make papers and TP, etc.
