Parent of three Blair kids (two grads and a current student) who thinks it's a fabulous school, though I have no experience working there. We do know multiple families from our neighborhood with parents who teach at Blair and they've been there for 1-2 decades each-- which must say something about how it is as a workplace, or you'd think they'd have moved on by now. There are two magnet programs, a STEM magnet and the CAP humanities magnet. It is huge and diverse. We think it's pretty great. Counseling may be the weakest part of the place in my kids' experience, but they haven't had major issues for which they needed the counselor so it's a little hard to say.

I think here you get a lot of the entitled and W school parents who demand that their public schools bend to their wants. You almost never hear from the parents of kids who go to the Gaithersburg, Wheaton, Watkins Mill and Northwest clusters and other similar clusters. A lot of those parents are satisfied with what they get from their public schools though parents here will vilified them as violent and gang filled schools. I think Reddit is a more diverse representation if anything, I think people hear don't want to admit that because they're so used to hearing the same MCPS bashing voices they're not open to accepting that MCPS is a decent public school system. The 2 nearest school systems don't even have forums like this one, there must be something special about the entitlement the parents have in mcps I guess.

I am seriously considering applying for a position at Blair HS. I don’t know too much about the school except it’s the largest HS at MCPS with a magnet program. How is the culture there? How’s admin?
